Lecture Introduction:
The discussion of photography is in essence to figure out a way to observe. Photography makes use of the eyes of machine,and at the same time, it represents transformation of what we seen from our naked eyes. Photography filtering into China can be a perspective, from where we can observe the conflicts of Eastern and Western Cultures and the response of China.
Speaker Introduction:
Dr. Xiaoyan Yang is Professor, Associate Dean, and Doctoral Advisor in the College of Communication and Design at Sun Yat-sen University. He was formerly the Associate Director of Lingnan Fine Arts Publishing House, the Chief Editor of Gallery magazine, Chair of the Department of Art History at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. He has published many books includind Seeing and Being Seen: Photography of China, Xiaoyan Yang: Art Criticism, Sixty Years of New China Photography, Critique of Artistic Methods, etc.
