The 3rd Chinese-Portuguese Translation Contest for Higher Education Institutions in China organized by the University of Macau and the Beijing Foreign Studies University, aims to promote the exchange of Portuguese language teaching in China, encourage Portuguese students to participate in the practice of translation and discover qualified translators in both languages.
- For the “Undergraduate Group”, there are 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes and honorable mentions; for the “Postgraduate Group”, there are 1st, 2nd and 3rd There will be the same prize for both “Portuguese to Chinese translation” and “Chinese to Portuguese translation” sub-categories.
- Among the “Undergraduate Group”, the “Portuguese to Chinese translation” and “Chinese to Portuguese translation” sub-categories will have 1 quota of 1st prize, 2 quotas of 2nd prize and 3 quotas of 3rd prize and 6 quotas of honorable mentions, with a total of 24 awardees.
- Among the “Postgraduate Group”, the “Portuguese to Chinese translation” and “Chinese to Portuguese translation” sub-categories will have 1 quota of 1st prize, 1 quota of 2nd prize and 1 quota of 3rd prize, with a total of 6 awardees.

- All participants will be awarded a certificate of participation.
- Applicants must be either undergraduate or postgraduate (master’s only) students studying Portuguese at a higher education institution in mainland China or Macau;
- Each institution independently recommends its students to the Organizing Committee.
- The Contest will be held on site. In order to facilitate the participation of candidates from different regions, there will be two venues for the contest: the University of Macau and the Beijing Foreign Studies University;
- The contest will be held simultaneously at the two above-mentioned venues, and participating institutions must choose one venue when registering;
- The contest will be held without consultation, and students must complete the translation task within the specified time. No supplementary materials other than paper dictionaries can be used.
- The Jury is chaired by Professor Yao Jingming from the University of Macau and Professor Ye Zhiliang from Beijing Foreign Studies University;
- The Jury consists of eight renowned experts in the field of Chinese-Portuguese translation;
- The translated texts will be submitted anonymously to the Jury and ranked by its members. The final ranking will be based on the average scores of the contestants.
- Submission of application forms by institutions: September 30, 2024
- Contest: November 22, 2024 (Friday), 14:00-17:00
- Announcement of results: early December
- Participants are not required to pay a registration fee;
- All expenses related to the contest (e.g. travel, meals and accommodation) will be borne by the participating universities or individuals.
- The contest is divided into two groups: undergraduate students and postgraduate students. There will be two sub-categories in each group: the Portuguese-Chinese translation category and the Chinese-Portuguese translation category;
- Each candidate can only take part in one of the categories, for example, the group of undergraduate students — Portuguese-Chinese translation category;
- Each institution will independently recommend its students to the Organizing Committee. Each institution will nominate a maximum of 4 undergraduate students (no more than 2 in each category) and 2 postgraduate students (no more than 1 in each category), with a total of no more than 6 students;
- The professors responsible for the participating institutions must submit the completed application form to the Organizing Committee’s email address ctcpuc@um.edu.mo before the deadline.
Participants should strictly abide by the rules and regulations of the Contest. All information provided must be true. The Organizing Committee may disqualify any participants who does not comply with the rules and regulations, and the Organizing Committee reserves the right of interpretation.
